Numerical Analysis on Global Serviceability Behaviours of Tall Glulam Frame Buildings to the Eurocodes and UK National Annexes

Glued-laminated timber (Glulam) is an innovative engineered product and has been widely used for constructing spatial grand structures tall buildings due to its exceptional natural attraction, easy processing, decent fire resistance outstanding structural performance. However, global serviceability performances of constructed from Glulam products beams, columns bracings CLT lift core floors under wind load are not well known yet though they crucial in design analysis. In this study, finite element software SAP2000 numerically simulate the static dynamic behaviours a 105 m high 30-storey building with assumed Glasgow, Scotland, UK. The maximum horizontal storey displacement 58.5% limit 49.7% set Eurocodes. first three lowest vibrational frequencies, modes shapes obtained, fundamental frequency being 33.3% smaller than code recommended value low mass stiffness. peak acceleration determined Eurocodes ISO 10137. results show that satisfy requirements other standards. Parametric studies on accelerations also conducted by varying material properties masses. Increasing grade members, generalised stiffness can all be adopted lower at top level so as reduce human perceptions induced vibrations respect acceleration.
